Anyone who's ever read this knows what I think about A.J. Pierzynski. But that doesn't make his All-Star selection any less of a joke. A.J. over Francisco Liriano? Puh-leeze. Seven White Sox and two Tigers? Whatever. Seven White Sox and two Twins? Um, no.
I say from now on the manager of the team with the WORST record in his respective league the previous season gets to manage the All-Star game. Ozzie is within his rights to do what he did, but he's rewarding a couple of guys for their performances LAST year.
The best first baseman in the AL right now is Justin Morneau, Minnesota. The best pitcher this side of Johan Santana (Minnesota) is Francisco Liriano (Minnesota). And if A.J. were still a Twin, he wouldn't even be the STARTER, thanks to Joe Mauer.
Ridiculous.

This kind of thing doesn't bother me. It's a popularity contest, nothing more. Until they take the voting away from the fans, this will happen every year.
True enough, but the fact Liriano was left off by Guillen to begin with is what put this situation BACK into the hands of the fans.
Mark Buehrle? Mark Redman?
Ozzie didn't pick a very good pitching staff...hopefully it doesn't kill the AL's chances of keeping their domination over the NL.
Good point. The Buehrle one really threw me.
And don't worry....the N.L. will crap the bed just like they have all year in I.L. play.
Heeeeeey FB, you been holding out! I'd have been in here much sooner. Consider yourself blogrolled, my friend.
Please feel free to come rant on Inside Zebster as well.
Liriano is now rightfully in the game, albeit as an injury replacement. I hope he gets in for an inning and strikes out the side. The country needs to see this kid, he's amazing.
Came to Minnesota in the A.J. Pierzynski deal with the Giants. The same deal, BTW brought Joe Nathan to the Twins. Guess who "won" that trade?
